Bar Commission 3rd Division Election – Messages to WLU members from candidates Janise Macanas and Sammi Anderson
From Janise Macanas:
Dear Friends at WLU:
As a member of WLU, I sincerely ask for your vote today as candidate for the 3rd District Bar Commissioner. I volunteered on the commission this past year as UMBA Ex-Officio Officer and collaborated on agenda items with our WLU President. If elected I will work extremely hard on your behalf, be a strong advocate for WLU, and enthusiastically support matters of importance to WLU members. Online voting started Sept 27, so if you did not get your ballot please contact the Bar at (801) 531-9077 to request assistance.

From Sammi Anderson:
I am running for the open seat on the Bar Commission, 3rd Division and I would appreciate the opportunity to represent you there. Of the 12 attorneys currently sitting on the Bar Commission, only 3 are women. I believe that Bar leadership, judgeships and other legal positions should more accurately reflect the number of women graduating from law schools and entering our profession. For this reason, I would urge you to consider voting for one of the two women candidates running for this position.
As to my candidacy, I came to Salt Lake City immediately after graduating from the University of Arizona law school and finishing my judicial clerkship with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. I’ve been practicing among you now for the last 10 years. Service to the bar has been an important part of my career. From the Young Lawyer’s Division, to Chair of the Litigation Section Executive Committee, to Co-Chair of the Annual Convention at Sun Valley, to the Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure, I have enjoyed every moment of working with you, for you and getting to know you better.
As colleagues, we have served together on Bar committees and worked to resolve our clients’ legal issues. I am pleased to call many of you my friends. I write to ask for your vote and for you to put in a good word among your friends and colleagues by circulating this e-mail within your firms and e-mail lists.
Sammi V. Anderson

Former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Will Headline 27th Utah Women’s Conference
I wanted to take this opportunity to personally invite you to the 27th Utah Women’s Conference, “Discovering the Diversity and Unity of Women” that my wife Elaine and will be co-hosting on October 11, 2013 this year. I am thrilled to announce that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be headlining this year’s Conference that will be held at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City.
Elaine and I are thrilled that Secretary Rice has agreed to headline this year’s conference. She epitomizes strength and dignity and exercised both as a diplomat and world-wide ambassador for America. Her tenure in high positions in government, as well as academia and political science has been marked by remarkable intelligence, and thoughtful leadership. I am honored that she would agree to be part of our Conference and believe this is a wonderful opportunity for Utah women to hear from someone who has been at the forefront of history.
In addition to Secretary Rice, Steve Amerson will be the featured musical entertainer this year. A nationally recognized tenor with immense talent, he has been a featured soloist with major symphonies in the United States and throughout the world, and has been nicknamed “America’s Tenor.”
The Conference will also feature many other local and national experts who will be presenting workshops on the power of early detection in women’s health; using new media in the workplace; getting ahead in your professional life; civic participation; health and nutrition; financial planning; and many other timely and relevant topics for women.
To register for the Conference, you can visit the Conference website at http://utahwomensconference.org. Or if you have questions, please email the question to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 801 413-9133 . The cost is $40 and includes lunch and materials. The Conference will begin at 8:30 am.

Dear Utah Women Lawyers,
My name is Pam White, and at the suggestion of a friend, I am writing to inform you of a business I have created which may be of great help.
It is called Grandmas on the Go and is designed to provide short term child care to families where a parent needs to travel for business reasons, or where parents wish to go on vacation but have no one with whom they can leave the children. The business is designed where I go into the home and become the “temporary” mother, providing all care for the children. This includes transporting children to school, sports or other activities, doing homework, and providing a safe, nurturing, and orderly home.
As both the mother of four grown children and former primary grade school teacher, I know the importance of maintaining a loving environment in the home during a parental absence. I invite you to visit my website: www.grandmasonthego.com for more information, or please feel free to call me @ 801.598.8800.
Thanks for the opportunity of sharing this exciting business venture with you. Best wishes in your individual professional endeavors.
