Special Projects Committee Joins Latinos in Action Event
On April 27, 2017, Special Project Committee member Julie Nelson taught a workshop about the ACT to a group of Latino high school students at a Latinos in Action event at the University of Utah. Latinos in Action is an organization that serves over 100 schools in the western United States, 25 of which are in Utah. It has a variety of year-round programs that are dedicated to helping Latino youth graduate from high school, enter college, and get good jobs. LIA holds a conference each spring at the University of Utah for Latino middle- and high-school students. The conference is filled with workshops highlighting various aspects of applying to college and getting a job. Julie taught a workshop about the ACT. Julie discussed that the ACT is not only used for admissions, but can be the secret weapon to getting a great scholarship. She discussed strategies for studying for the test, as well as taking it. The students were pretty enthusiastic with Julie’s message. Julie is a lawyer at Zimmerman Jones Booher but has a secret life as a test prep tutor and teacher of the ACT, LSAT, GMAT, and GRE.
