Summit County - Returnship

Summit County, located in Utah, is recruiting for a returnship.This uncompensated position is designed for a lawyer looking to (1) reactivate their law license; or (2) return to the workforce after an extended absence.

Under the supervision of the Summit County Attorney, opportunities exist to learn civil and criminal practice and procedure, local government law, land use law, litigation, appeals, and criminal prosecution. A Returnship also offers the opportunity to renew or make professional connections with other lawyers and stakeholders in the Summit County community. Once fully re-licensed, the Returnship could offer opportunities to appear in traffic court, and try misdemeanor cases to the bench. This position is offered in the spirit of the Utah Governor and Lieutenant Governor’s Executive Order 2021-8 to “develop talent as well as improve prospects for workers in our community.” 

The position is open until filled, and shall start January 2, 2022 for a period of up to one year.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Graduation from an accredited law school, an active Utah bar license or the ability to shortly re-activate a bar license in Utah. 

WORK EXPECTATIONS:           

This position will involve between 10-20 hours per week, attendance in Justice and District Court as well as administrative hearings, trial and witness preparation, job shadowing, attendance at meetings and negotiations, legal research, analysis, and writing. The person awarded the returnship will become familiar with Xchange, eProsecutor, and case management software.
