Staff Attorney

30 total weekly hours (VOCA: 20 hours; TLC: 10 hours)

Pay: Based on experience and starting at $25.00 an hour

Hotline

  • Provide advice, screening, & sending resources to clients who call in on the Hotline.

  • Cover one set day per week from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the Hotline (and follow up on messages received after 2:00 p.m. the day before) and back up the Hotline another day a week for two hours.

  • Cover for other attorneys as needed.

  • Update Hotline database.

  • Collect data and information for reports.

Document Clinic

  • Draft family law documents for clients.

  • Provide document coaching when a client needs to complete a document and there is not time to go through the Doc Clinic.

  • Understand the needs, issues, and deadlines for the client.

  • Always inform clients about CVR funding and offer to assist with the forms.

  • Recruit a volunteer attorney or law student to work with some clients.

  • Forward templates and information to the volunteer.

  • Connect the volunteer and client on Zoom.

  • Mentor the volunteer throughout the case.

  • Staff cases with TLC attorneys.

  • Follow through in ensuring the client receives the documents.

  • Follow through with the client to ensure paperwork is filed.

  • Send feedback survey to client and volunteer.

  • Track case and client data.

Case Assignment Meetings

  • Attend weekly case assigning/review meetings for Doc Clinic with TLC staff attorneys.

  • Ensure Document Clinic cases are assigned to a TLC attorney.

  • Ensure that attorneys follow through and close out the cases.

Handouts

  • Lead the coordination efforts and updates of resource handouts used by TLC Staff

Clinics

  • Work with shelters to meet their needs.

  • Determine the place for the clinic, set the dates and times, and advertise as appropriate.

  • Provide intake forms and handouts (ensure expandable file has all handouts).

  • Work with local bar associations to recruit and train volunteers.

  • Track volunteer time and clients served; update Excel Doc.

  • Forward intake paperwork to Executive Assistant and enter the cases onto database.

  • Support and mentor the volunteers at the clinic.

  • Provide advice and education to the clients.

  • Inform clients about CVR funding and offer to assist with the forms.

Judicial District Liaison

  • Build and foster relationships with agencies, service providers, committees, and the Bar within the District you are assigned

  • Attend the District's Pro Bono Committee Meetings.

  • Work with and maintain contact with the shelters within the District and follows up on their needs.

  • Be aware of and attend events in the District (foster working relationships).

Miscellaneous

  • Assist other staff as needed with clinics, pro se calendars, CLE’s, etc.

  • Attend Family Justice Center Clinic on alternating Tuesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. until we are finished, or when needed.

  • Attend Staff Meetings.

  • Work on Pro Bono Celebration event and clinic in October.

Administrative

  • Ensure that time reports and requests for reimbursement are complete and timely.

  • Ensure compliance with VOCA Assurances and other grant conditions.

  • Attend training and CLE events to maintain highest professional standards including two one-week intensive trainings on domestic violence and sexual assault.
