WCF Insurance - Staff Attorney

Position

 The legal department has an immediate opening for someone who can demonstrate the WCF values to join their team as a staff attorney. This is a full-time, exempt position that works out of WCF’s Sandy, Utah headquarters. Flexible work schedule and hybrid work from home/office are available for this position.

Responsibilities

 The staff attorney manages all stages of commercial insurance and workers’ compensation litigation. This includes representing WCF and its policyholders in all aspects of the civil and administrative litigation process from initial responsive pleadings through discovery, mediation and other negotiations, administrative hearings, administrative review, and any necessary appeals to the Utah Court of Appeals and Supreme Court. The staff attorney also provides significant support and legal guidance to the WCF claims staff and other internal customers. Finally, the staff attorney helps carry out many other functions of the legal department, including business support, document and policy review, committee participation, strategic advice and analysis to internal and external business partners, and legislative involvement.

 Qualifications

 ·            Juris doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an active member in good standing with the Utah State Bar;

·            Experience in the field of automobile insurance litigation (trial experience strongly preferred);

·            An understanding of auto, property, and liability insurance policies;

·            A rudimentary understanding of workers’ compensation rules and laws;

·            Knowledge of Utah Rules of Civil Procedure, tort liability, and techniques of legal research;

·            Superior organizational and interpersonal skills;

·            Excellent judgment and personal discretion;

·            Outstanding legal-writing and general written and verbal communication skills;

·            Literacy in claims, underwriting, and other insurance principles;

·            Superb courtroom skills;

·            Ability to solve problems and enhance existing processes;

·            Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat.
