WLU Girl Scout Troop a Big Success
Lawyers of Utah (WLU) led a successful Girl Scout Troop based out of The Road Home Emergency Shelter in Midvale. Our troop met ten times from December – March, and WLU members and community members had the opportunity to teach approximately 25 girls about Girl Scouting. Some volunteers were leaders for just one evening and others came every week. The Girl Scouts and volunteer leaders learned about connecting with one another, values, self-esteem, handling emotions, using resources wisely, the value of our dreams, and resilience. WLU also had special visitors attend such as local politicians, heads of academic institutions, and even Ms. America. The season culminated with a graduation and bridging ceremony held on March 2nd for all shelter residents to attend.
WLU would like to thank Community Outreach Chair Sarah Starkey and her committee for their tireless efforts in organizing the troop this year. We also thank volunteers who make the troop possible — Noella Sudbury, Diana Hagen, Audrey Phillips, Ashley Peck, Kirsten Sweeney, Rebecca Ryon, Jennie Garner, Anne Freeland, Rachel Anderson, Brook Edwards, Megan Mustoe, Rebecca Joslin, Liza Jones, Sarah Olson, Kimberlee Hiatt, Joann Shields, Traci Brinkerhoff, Lauren Devoe, Joann Sheilds, and Leah Farrell.
