Utah Attorney General's Office - Assistant Solicitor General - Civil Appeals Division

The Civil Appeals Division of the Utah Attorney General’s Office has an opening for an attorney to represent state government entities and employees in civil appeals. The attorney will carry a substantial appellate case load, present oral argument, supervise other appellate matters, review and edit briefs and pleadings, and provide, as needed, legal advice concerning relevant aspects of Utah and federal law and procedure. At a minimum, the position requires excellent analytical, writing and oral advocacy skills, familiarity with rules of appellate procedure, proficiency with proper legal citation rules, and the ability to provide and accept constructive edits of work product. The attorney must also be able to maintain a collegial work environment. Strong preference will be given for applicants with civil appellate experience and/or prior appellate judicial clerkships. Membership in the Utah State Bar in good standing is required. Incumbents must practice law as an active member of the Utah State Bar in good standing.  Some travel is required as incumbents will need to represent the State in criminal trials, civil litigation and other legal proceedings throughout the State.
